Balboa Naval Medical Center Boiler Installation

The Balboa Naval Medical Center Boiler Replacement project included providing design-build services to remove and discard three existing fire-tube boilers and replacing the existing with two new 500 horsepower fire-tube boilers in order to provide heating hot water system to the entire hospital. The hospital areas served by the project’s boilers include Dental Surgery, Treatment Rooms, Morgue, Blood Bank, Orthopedics, Radiology, Histology, Cytology, Intensive Care Unit, Laboratory, Surgical Training Labs, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Mental Health, Radiation Therapy, and all levels of support spaces for the noted departments. This facility is considered Mission Critical to the Navy and all disruptions and shutdowns were minimized and coordinated with on-site personnel.

Countywide Mechanical served as the design-build prime contractor, teaming with Randall Lamb & Associates to provide a sustainable design solution to install a finished product to alleviate current deficiencies associated with the existing Central Co-gen plant system. The close coordination with NAVFAC and the Hospital staff to mitigate the impacts of construction on the occupied Hospital, and phasing of the temporary boiler Countywide Mechanical provided and installed for the construction duration and other temporary services and equipment was paramount to the success of the project.
