Countywide Attends Second Annual Beach Cleanup

Sunday, May 14, 2017

Countywide team members participated in their second consecutive cleanup with the San Diego Surfrider Foundation. They spent the morning of May 13 cleaning up Ocean Beach and held a BBQ afterward for all who participated.

The Surfrider Foundation protects the nearly 70 miles of coastline, making them one of the largest and most active chapters in the world. In 2016 alone, the 6,333 volunteers collected more than 9,000 pounds of trash. The Surfrider Foundation provides many programs for ocean education. Ocean Friendly Gardens, a volunteer-led landscaping program, emphasizes how landscaping can prevent water pollution, while No Border Sewage aims to protect beaches and oceans from sewage discharge.

The Surfrider Foundation and its 250,000+ members represent 20 countries worldwide with 84 chapters in the United States alone.
